Sahih

Narrated Abu Huraira

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "It was said to the Children of Israel, 'Enter the gate (of the town), prostrate (bowing with humility) and say: " Hiṭṭatun " (i.e. repentance) i.e. O Allâh ! Forgive our sins. But they entered by dragging themselves on their buttocks, so they did something different (from what they had been ordered to do) and said, Ḥinţatun, a grain in a spike." [1] [6:6-O.B]
[1] They said so just to ridicule Allah's Order as they were disobedient to Him. So Allah punished them severely by sending on them punishment most probably in the form of an epidemic of plague (disease). (See Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 1, Page 305). Also see Hadith No. 1451).
