Mukhtasar Sahih Al-Bukhari

31. The Book of As-Saum (The Fasting)

مختصر صحيح البخاري

2/20 Chapter: Zulm (wrong) of one kind can be greater or lesser than that of another.
باب: ظُلْمٌ دُونَ ظُلْم

942

Sahih

Narrated Ibn 'Abbâs

The Prophet (ﷺ) was cupped while he was in the state of, and also while he was observing a Șaum (fast).[1] [3:159-O.B]
[1] HadIth No. 159 contradicts the IladIth of Al-Ijasan. Apparently the Muslim jurists have given various interpretations to discard this contradiction: Ash-Shâfi'i says, "Both Ahâdtth are correct, but the one narrated by Ibn 'Abbâs is stronger as regards its series of narrators; yet it is better to avoid cupping while observing auni (fast). But the verdict is to be taken from the JladIth of Ibn 'Abbâs. I have the knowledge that the Prophet's companions and their followers and all Muslim scholars think that cupping does not break one's Sawn (fast)." Ibn Hazm thinks that Al-Hasan's Hadith is invalidated by another authentic IjadIth narrated by Abü Sa'id which goes: "The Prophet (ﷺ) permitted cupping for a person observing Saum (fast)." (Fati Al-Bári Vol. 5, Pages 79-81).
